Hi ppl, I'm using OTTO Arowana Safety as an anti-chlorine for my 4ft tank with a 10" ornate. Just checking, ornates prefer slightly alkaline water, correct? pH 7-8? Cos the lfs guy insists this OTTO product is okay for bichirs as it works as an anti-chlorine and pH buffer. But the back of the box says that it "makes the water quality becomes soft and low pH environment that Arowana likes". Also, it says that it's good for plecos, and plecos like acidic water correct? So who's right? Should I use a different anti-chlorine agent? No ill effects on the ornate whatsoever,in fact she's quite fat and active now..Thanks everyone =)

You are best to leave yuor pH alone and let your fish adjust to whatever pH level
your source water is and avoid rapid swings in your pH levels

Water chemistry
In their natural occuring range West and Central African rivers, lakes and swamps
bichirs are found in water conditions varying in pH values between 6.5 to almost 9.0.
And water hardness varying between2dH to almost 20dH.
And tempuratures ranging from mid 70'sF to mid 80'sF
with a dissolved oxygen content between 3.3 parts per 1000 by volume
and 2.50 parts per 1000 by volume.
3.3 parts per 1000 by volume is common in aqauria kept at 75 F
These water parameters will flucuate thruought the year as dry season gives
way to the rainy season and rivers rise and swamps flood often lowering water temps
for short peroids of time.As you can see they are tolerant of a wide range of water
conditions.
typical African rivers have pH values varying from pH 6.9 to7.2
typical African swamps have pH values varing from pH 7.2 to7.8
Also remember these values change at least seasonly-Anne

i would just use a regular dechlorinator or prime or amquel
