Will a Water Cow take bites out of other fishes? I am planning to buy a 12 inch one and I read reports that the fish will bite chunks out of other fishes. One report said an 8 inch Water Cow took out a 6 inch Oscar in the stomach. That fish could not fit into its mouth.

Anyone with experience with the Water Cow?

water cow wont take chunks out of a fish but they will eat fish that seem to large for them to eat. but not a 8in water cow eating a 6 in oscar, 4-41/2 inches i could belive it. but that 12 inch water cow can eat 6 inch fish especialy slender fish.

Thanks for the information. Was wondering, would you trust the Water Cow with a 7 inch Lima Shovelnose Catfish. That is the smallest fish I have that I am going to put with it.

As always, the Water Cow vary from fish to fish as far as the extent of their gluttony.

Your Shovelnose is the perfect shape for being eaten by the Water Cow, so personally I would not risk it. Even if it was 8-9 inches the elongated body really negates it mattering.

the lima cat might fall prey to the cow when the cow get's bigger... I wouldn't risk the chance. From my experiance they have a dark and aggresive side to them.
