Noticed something, I wanted to see if anyone else has similar experiences. My MAL, about 24", is without a doubt my most boring fish. It rarely moves and never eats by the light of day. However, if I house him in a 24" deep tank as opposed to his typical 16", he moves around and eats during the day.

Odd?

I have noticed the same thing with my two WALs. The one is in a 12" high aquarium while the other is in an 18" high aquarium. The one in the 18" high aquarium moves around quite a bit now while the one in the 12" high aquarium only moves every once in a while.

i also experienced this, i put it down to the tank being larger in general. Maybe they feel safer from predators?

Think about lungfish. They usually come from places with extreme drout. Deep water they prob feel safe, shallow water they are going to want to relax and conserve energy knowing the dry season is coming. Just my thought

I think I posted before on somebody's tread that lungfish that are 18"+ becomes more active if keep in larger tank. All my smaller lungfish likes to hide but when they reach 18"+ and place in bigger tank they swim none stop looking for food. Will only rest when full. I will take a video soon of my lungfish together swimming all over and sometime side by side. It's actually fun to watch as you don't get to see it everyday with a comm of lungfish.

My 16 wal swims constantly and is very social. He comes out to the front when new people are over. My water is 15" deep and has live plants in it that he loves. He uses them to rest like an underwater hammock lol

My lungfish was very active. It would eat out of my hand and whenever you approached the tank he would get excited. I had him 20 years and only in the last few did his activity level drop I think his eyesight faded he was in a 6x2x2 tank.
