I am draining my 50-Gallon Breeder tank for my Chinese water Dragon, and trying to get out all of the sand sucks. So I had an idea. Can I make a little... sand bank (Hopefully that sounds right) with water one one side, sand on the other? Is sand an OK substrate for a Chinese Water Dragon if fed in separate area? I may have to take out all of the sand anyway, but I was just curious.
Hurry please, I have the tank drained halfway, and the Water Dragon is getting tired of sitting on the floor, lol.

I have a pic of what I am tying to describe. (VERY bad pic, made it quick on Paint, lol)

I have had my female water dragon for at least 14 years , shes been in many tanks and cages I've built but by far the most unhappy shes been is in fish tanks with water like that plus its very unsanitary more so if you feed them pinkies. a simple wooden cage with hard wire screen and a cat litter box for the water ,to go the the bathroom in is the best.in my opinon drain the tank put in some aspen shavings ,hide box ,couple of branches ,and a catlitterbox so that it can cover at least half its body in water it be much more happy and a lot easier to keep its water clean , I post a pic of my set up soon

Good point. I drained it and all of the sand is out. I will be adding fleece to the bottom for now until I can get some substrate at the petstore. Thanks for the advice. ;) Can't wait to see the setup.

shakes.jpg] I made this set up for about 80.00 but she loves it, i put clear plastic in the winter . and change her cat box every day, I use aspen bedding becuz the pine shavings have oils not good for reptiles.I think the dragons are more at ease in an open cage the enclosed glass bothers their hearing and stresses them in my opion

Wow. Beautiful setup. lol, mine is far from being as nice as yours. But he has a lot more room than the 20-Gallon he was in. I'll def. have to think about building a custom cage soon. :)

Took out the sand. I added a water bowl today until I get a chance to get to the pet store, seems how almost everything is closed today.
i use zillas carpet in my CWD tank. i highly recomend it.

Is it a male ? somtimes I would wear an orange shrit with a red cap , and whoa one mad dragon but thats only for the adults the young males and females will spook very bad those are breeding colors for the big bad males somtimes the younger males wont ever trust you again if you freak em out to bad , being a red skins fan I was always having to remember to take my shirt, or else there they go
