I have a problem with water evaporation. I have a 29 gallon fresh water tank. I have 1 light on it and what isn't covered by the light is wide open. I have a small heater and the water stays at 75-76 degrees fahrenheit. The tank is used but I leak-tested it and it didn't have any issues. I also don't notice any water on the floor under the tank. I go through 1-2 gallons of water per week (sometimes more if the light is on 24/7). Is there a way to prevent this or slow down the evaporation? I've noticed it's not as bad if I keep the light off but it still loses water! Anyone have advice? THANKS!

Post some pictures.

Is there a lid? Tank in the indoors or in garage or basement? Whats the filtration? Aeration?

Any way you can close the lid of the tank more? That should help, but 1-2 gallons a week with tropical water isnt unheard of.

You probably need a better lid with less of an opening.

Must be some environmental factors at play here.....My 180 and 265 each would take about a month to lose that much water. On the other hand,my 75 seems to lose water at pretty rapid rate.

my 240g w/ 55g sump loses about 5 gal a week. Besides open area of water, water temp and room temp play a big part as well. Room humidity can also play a role, but I think that would be pretty minor

or if you have the room you could do an auto-top off. More work than a humidifier but you can probably get a float valve and bucket for less (around $15 from prices I have seen on amazon)
