I bought a larger filter for brakish tank. So now I'm inquiring : if I can use the water filter that I'm taking off of that tank can be used on a FW tank, if I rinse everything off and use a new filter? Please only give opinions if you know for sure if this would be alright or not. I love my fish very much, and don't want to harm them.:D TIA:D

Scrub the filter good and replace the media and you'll be good to go. I've done this before and all was good.

Go for it Tracy! No need for you to scrap the media either (mech pads excluded) if you wash it well in hot water. I have used canister and sumps from full salt to fresh and brackish and vice versa. A good wash goes a long way. If there is salt buildup or calcium deposits from marine, soak in vinegar. It will melt like butter ;)

:D Thank you JK47 Sir! I'm making a note of it, about the vinegar, for future use too. Wouldn't have thought of that one on my own, that's for sure. Now I just have to wait 'til my re-seal job has cured, for 48 hrs, and then the fun begins.:D I like to re-use anything possible when I'm setting up another tank. Then I'm able to spend more $$$ on the FISH !:headbang2

Im just curious... Does the filter need to be scraped other than for getting any built up salt or calcium? I just honestly didn't think you would have to... But then again, I've never even seen a filter that has been on a SW tank..

Well, some one told me "once you go brackish, you never go backish".........or something like that? ! But when I see those pretty fish, in lfs in that 10gl tank, my heart strings get pulled, and I end up leaving with them.:D I give them a nice big comfy tank.:D
