In your experience, does the filter/powerhead flow bother a ray if it is directed across the whole bottom of the tank? I came home today to mine climbing the back wall of the tank, when I un-plugged the return pump, she resumed normal swimming on the bottom of the tank.

Thanks,

Ray
(I know - hahaha)

Depends on the GPH of your powerhead and the dimension of your tank.

6 x 2 x 2' - 180 gal, built in filter at one end, the water returns to the tank with a 1000 gph power head using a home made spray bar made from 1.25" PVC, it is about two inches off of the bottom and sprays the width of the tank along the bottom. Sorry about that, I should have detailed that in the first place.

Since they are bottom dwellers, I think a constant current along the length of the tank may be too much.

ive seen some rays really enjoy this though. keeps the tank bottom looking very clean too

if its a problem, i would place the power head at the bottom, and direct it upwards to the filter

Thanks Guys, she was out and about for almost an hour, cruising and eating a few pieces of cut up shrimp, then she burried herself. :D

if you do have sand in the bottom of the tank, creating a current in the bottom may not be the best idea. but you can still create enough flow in the water layer above the bottom, which in turn will eliminate dead spots with a light current in the bottom.

I keep my PH pointed at surface for agitation to get better O2 for system. Constant circulation from draw of filtering and PH should create enough flow across the bottom.
