Hi,
I have a 20 gallon long all set and ready for a group of neolamprologus multifasciatus which I will hopefully be getting soon but I was wondering if the Aquaclear 70(previously 300) rated for 40-70 gallon tanks would be creating too strong a current for such small fish in that size aquarium. I have a shellbed of more than 100 shells and I am worried that the flow rate will cause problems for the fry and even adult fish so much so that they refuse to claim any of the shells near the outflow of the aquaclear 70.

I am also worried that the current might be too strong the for the entire tank itself(in general). Does anyone think this would be a problem? I know if I fiddle with it A LOT I can reduce the outflow so the current isn't nearly as strong but it takes a while to do and can be a pain. Also, I don't know if that might compromise its filtration capacity/longevity.

Thanks for all your advice and replies in advance!

I have an AQ70 on my 20 gallon long. It really creates more surface current than anything. It won't be too much current at all. Plus the added feature of the Aquaclears is that you can adjust the flow rate slightly.
