Im new to sumps and are in the process of designing one. I see alot of designs where the water comes in through the socks then up and over the next baffle and fall on to the bio media. Would it not be more efficient to come through the sock then under the baffel and rise through the bio making the flow of water push through the bio evenly?

depends on what your after. if you're running wet/dry then running it the way you've drawn will submerge the media, defeating the purpose.
all my media is submerged and runs the way you've drawn, albeit in the opposite direction.

I did need to weigh down the sponges to keep them from going with the flow.

Oh I see, like your design! What is poret? Is it for bio? Because you still have the flow pouring on the pond matrix and water rising through the poret , right?

it's bio. and actually the flow doesn't pour over the matrix so much as just flow. the whole thing is filled with water to the top of the baffles so it's all under water. the drawing is my original plan so the measurements turned out a bit different when I put it together. add to that, the drawing wasn't to scale, just a sketch.

I see your point about the matrix fully submerged, but my question was if it would be more efficent to have the water flowing beneath and rising through the matrix (bio) ypu have your mechanical this way!
