A buddy of mine is having a problem. I sold him a tank and a black aro a few weeks back, the aro went on a hunger strike after the move. I told him he may be stress and refuse to eat for a while.

He called me again last night and told me that he tested his PH and it was pretty high (8.0 ish)..

So I came over last night with my test kit..and here's what I have..

PH 8.8 (I tested 3X with Aquarium Pharmaceuticals, Salifert and Instant Ocean)

Hardness: 19 DEGREES of KH (tested twice with Aq pharmecutical and Salifert Test kit

The aro seems fine other than a loss of appetite. He seems to adapt pretty well.

Any long term effect that we should worry about with this hard of water ?

what was the PH when you had the aro ?

as long as the change in ph is not sudden from say 6 at your place to 8 in the new home it should be fine

how long has the tank been set up in the new location i find its hard to keep the ph up when a tank has been set up for some time

what was the ph out of the tap at your Friends place ?

if the aro is over 12inch it can take more than a month for it to start feeding the bigger the aro the harder it is to get them feeding when you move them

I know...but 8.8 PH and 19 DKH can;t be too healthy..it's like dropping an aro in lake malawi in africa....

The aro is 24"

With that high of Carbonate hardness, is there anything that he can do to reduce the amount of calcium and magnesium out of the water...?

Gosh his water would've been perfect for salt water reef tank.. Most reefer including myself can;t keep enough calcium and magnesium up.
