I live in an area where the water is really hard (I'm talkin' around 7.5/8...) Will silver and black aros still live a long and healthy life in this type of water?

a stable ph is the right ph;)

Sounds good to me...I was worried that I may not be able to house one due to information from many locations saying that they "need" the pH to be close to 6

I have yet to raise a single South American fish that didn't thrive in hard water. Yes, it makes good sense that they might prefer water similar to their natural habitat, but it just doesn't seem to be the case.
