Why? The tank is a 180. I am using a 75 diy wet/dry. I did tear out the overflows clean them with water and resealed them in and the whole tank with the aga silicone. It was previously used a couple of years for saltwater. It has been set up for 3 months now. After I resealed it I did a water test and filled 6 inches of water in it and after a couple of days the water turned completely white and stunk like chlorine or something. Why is this still doing this? It doesn't affect the fish or anything but it is not nice to look at.

I vote bacterial bloom. Or possible cleaning agent residue left over from the cleaning ?

I did not use anthing to clean except water. The silicone dried for 3 or 4 days. It said 48 hours on the tube. If it was bacteria it should have went away by now.

sounds like ur mechanical filtration is failing. i had the same problem in my tank. i just replaced the filter sponge. u could also try cleaning it and the mechanical media if u have it.

Ok so tell us the important things now...

What is the water chemistry?

What is the filtration?

What is the light schedule?

Bio-load?

For starters.

ph=6 to 6.2 Nitrites=0 Nitrates 20-30 Hardness=250 Alkalinity is low but I never had a problem in my other tanks. Chlorine=0
Filtration is a diy 75 gallon wet/dry sump. I used 5 gallons of bio balls and I use the blue and white filter pads which the hoses drain directly onto.
Lights are on for about 8-10 hours a day and I do not have any algae problems.
