i saw that my water was turning green, decided friday morning to do a water change. i got home from work and it was still green. Yesterday it got worse, turn even more green, so i decide last night to do another water change. I woke up this morning and notice my water was even more green.

my setup is a 40 gallon acrylic with a eheim ecco 2234 canister filter 2 trays of eheim substrate ball and a aquaclear 50 with sponge ceramic circle. with a 200 watt stealth heater and a fusion 600 air pump

the fish tank house my 5 mono's and 2 tem's.

any help is welcome. i need to find the culprit of this green water fish tank

How many watts are your lights? Is your tank near or window or where sunlight can reach it? You can get some fine filtering media like polishing pads and put it in your eheim and i will be clear in about a day.

It's free floating algae, black out the tank for several days and it should go away.

How big are the fish? You've got 7 cichla in a 40 gallon tank, the nitrate levels may be too high which is causing the algae bloom.

the monos are like 5-6 and tems are 6-7. im in a money bind right now, but when i get stabled i will up grade. the bioload is there, and there are algae forming on the tank walls, but i do water changes every week or every 4-5days.

the tank is by a window but the window is blocked off. the light is a coralife 36 inch with a blue actnic bulb and a 10k bulb.

i am using tap water and PRIME.

What is the nitrate level?

You've got too many fish and too much light.
