I bought my daughter a 55gl tank with gravel 1pcs of driftwood and an Anubia. Tankmates are 1 comm pleco, 6" Goldfish and 1 4" Gold Saum GT.
The Filter is a RenaX3 and in the canopy is a built in light (2 bleu/white light bulbs). The tank is so cloudy and it the water turned to a foggy green.
I have had the tank running for about 4months and added the fish about 1 month later after setup. I have always got the water turning colors, but not so fast. Saturday we did a 50% water change and the green fadded. Last night, the water was a thick green cloud and I don't know how to shake it. What am I doing wrong?
Maybe I should disconnect 1 lightbulb?

How many hours of sunlight is your tank getting? How long do you leave the light on?

These are usually the reasons why a tank turns green....

I have the light on for about 8-9hrs. Is this to long?
Damb, I should of thought of this before I posted this:ROFL:
I'm going to change the timer to about 4-5hrs a day

yes 4-5 hours is a godd amount of time to have the lights on for the fish, I only turn the lights on for my cichlid tank in the evening when I get home from work and go to feed them. And I usually have the light on from about 5pm to about 10pm and it works great.

With that... is that enough light for the Anubia (Plant) that I have in the tank?

I would get rid of those blue bulbs as well. Sounds like you may have those 50/50 bulbs, which are made for saltwater corals. In any event, 6700k would be much better for freshwater plants. It is said that blue bulbs (actinic) grows nothing but algae in freshwater tanks.

Thanks. This is the kind of advise I'm talking about:D

Plus, your nutrient levels are too high in the tank (i.e. high nitrates and phosphates feeding the algae). That is probably from overfeeding and/or too few water changes.

By the way, a UV Clarifier would "zap" the algae gone in a day or two. You could plumb it inline with your canister.
