I read on another site that gars like water movement, but I haven't read anything about that on this site and was just wondering if I should add some powerheads in my tank for mine?

No gar is really into water movement. It does help in some ways with Longnosed and Shortnosed husbandry but in general muted water movement is best for them.

Richard said it...For the most part Gar are laid back and just like to float and cruise around the tank, but some Gar (especially the Longnose and Shortnose) are often times found in some decently strong current. As said though...current is not required at all.

Yeah, normal filter output should be fine. I've got an fx5 and a sump with a pump pushing ~500GPH and my Florida gar seems annoyed by the fluval's current but will occasionally face right into the sump output. Funny fish, gars.

i have a powerhead aerater thing. my florida will swim against the current when he goes up to breathe but then goes right back to the bottom.

what about circulation in the tank?

Water circulation amd current are different. Circulation is generally much more subtle and calm than actual current given off from a powerhead.

i have a powerhead in my tank.
my gars seem to not like the current much when not in feeding mode.
so they pretty much stay at the other side of the tank.
but during feeding time they like to swim against the current and catch krill that floats by.
