I am in process of setting up my new 75 gallon tank. Once I am happy with the cycle I will be moving my fish from another 75 gallon tank that is at a second house. My dilemma is that the water parameters between the two tanks vary. The parameters are the following:

Fish:
1 Rhombeus, 10inch - had him for 13.5 years

Old Tank:
PH - 6.8
KH - 1 drop on the tester, 0-50ppm
GH - 9 drops on the tester, 140-200ppm

New Tank:
PH - 7.6
KH - 6 drops, 100ppm
GH - 6 drops, 100ppm

The new tank has the current parameters because that is the same characteristics as the tap water. Originally, I wanted to keep the tank water the same parameters as the tap so that when I do water changes I do not have to worry about impacting the fish. Reading many posts, it seems this is the general consensus. Considering that, what do I need to do when I acclimate the fish?

I wanted to avoid using driftwood or peat, as I did not want to mess with the water parameters constantly. My goal is to keep this guy for 30+ years, so I want to do what is best.

Thanks!

Maybe do small water changes on the old tank with water from the tap?

I moved several months ago and had to put the current tank at my parents house temporarily. The new tank is at my house. Unless I plan on transporting water 1hr away for water changes, that will not work.

Oh ok.

The only thing I can think of is putting the fish in a Rubbermaid tote and slowly drip acclimating him to your pH.

I had to do something very similar recently. Transported several fish in poly boxes to my home. In a separate tote I transported about 12 gallons of water from old tank. Upon arrival the fish were transferred to the tote containing their original water. I drip acclimated them using air tubing over the course of about an hour. All of the fish are alive and healthy. Hope this helps.

This is a good plan. The pH is different but as long as there is a gradual change it will be fine. In ponds, parameters change throughout the day. Same changes occur in rivers due to sudden rainstorm runoffs. The changes though are incremental and slow.
