Well I did my changeover a little over 2 weeks ago and the water measures are perfect so far. I tested after 2 weeks so I could allow anything wrong to really show itself.
Here are the measurements: 0ppm nitrite, 4.5ppm nitrate, .25ppm ammonia, 8.0ph, 179kh, 420gh.

I am going to do a small water change today anyway because I know the crushed coral should be getting pretty dirty by now.

sounds good so far. its still cycling, as you still have ammonia levels, and your nitrites are really low.. i wouldnt add any live fish until you have no ammonia.

so, what do you plan on putting in the tank? how big is the tank?

This tank is a 75 here is a link to my changeover. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149766

I used to have CA cichlids (Dovii, RD, Blackbelt) in this one before the changeover so I'm sure the bio load was a little higher. I don't get the water spikes with the africans like I did with the CA. Oh and the tank is full of africans now, mostly phsudotropius. 18 all together, mostly 3" and smaller. They will go into my 240.

I agree, still cycling. Wait till you have 0 ppm ammonia and the nitrite has spiked and starts to drop before putting in anyfish. If you all ready have fish in there, be sure to continue to do frequent small water changes (10 percent) every couple days to make sure the fish can be comfortable during this time.

yeah since you have fish in there, you have to be careful with that ammonia. ANY amount is toxic to fish. i would do small waterchanges to get that out.. so that you dont burn the fishs' gills. years ago, i killed about 17 fish from ammonia poisoning.. it was a costly lesson lol..

Thanks, I also learned that lesson a while back myself. They are getting a 20% change this afternoon. Like I said I wanted to wait 2 weeks so I could see if I had any real problems. Off to do a water change.
