Setting up a 1000 gallon tank in a new petshop im working at for a saltwater display, and have a few questions...

The tank is in store and all the sump and acceseries are up stairs. There is roughly 15'of head on the lines to get upstairs to the system, and im looking for ideas on what pumps to run, as a starter to get things running and so forth a pool system pump was installed (THIS IS TEMPORARY ONLY, SO PLEASE FOCUS ON MY QUESTION) and now im looking for a new pump to get things going permanantly. At home i use sumps and mag drives, but this is a whole new setup and sittuation so im looking for input and help to keep this system going long term. There is also an addition tank of the same size new two it thats close to being water ready, so im looking to get the new pumps in order to start fresh on the new one as well as redo the existing setup. Anyone with info would be much appreciated. I will try and post some pictures later, but im on the stores desktop as of now so i dont have anything to post as of yet. Thank You in advance..

Still looking for any help guys and girls, please feel free to throw in any ideas. Ive been looking at some of the Dolphin pumps, so any knowledge on those would help as well.

A tank that large and that much head space I would be looking at 2 reeflo hammerheads and you could chose the gold option or not. That would give you the power and head space you would need.

I have a Reeflo Barracuda on my tank and its great for 650ish gallons. But my head space is about 6 feet, with twice that head space and probably more when you get all the plumbing going I would want the extra power of a larger pump trying to do a setup that large. Sounds like a fun project :D, I love all the plumbing and filtration mess, Forget the tank, just take pictures of that for me.

What type of GPH are you looking to achieve?

A Reeflo Hammerhead Gold is going to give you about 3,400GPH @ 15' of head pressure while drawing around 270 watts. I think this pump would probably be your best bet.

Is there any way to avoid pumping water 15' vertically? It takes a lot of energy to pump water that high.

Pix?

If it's for salt water make sure the seal on the pump is for marine and not fresh. Buna seals are for salt. Aquarium pumps are low RPM (1425/1725) because of the low head pressure and tank volume. In you case, depending on the desired gph, you may have to look into a high pressure pump (3600 RPM). Operating cost would definitely increase due to the increase in amperage. As aldiaz23 mentioned, designing for efficiency will save $$$$$.

Reeflo pumps would be the way to go.
