General question: What’s the best water pump either submersible or external, that is the most energy efficient but can still pump about 3-4000 gph? I’m just looking for new ideas. Also it only need to pump about 6ft head height and not pressurized.

Reeflo is the ultimate external pump. You cannot beat it for power savings and the GPH is awesome to boot. @ 6' of head the Hammerhead (5000 GPH/370 watts), Barracuda (3500 GPH/240 Watts) or the Dart (2500 GPH/155 Watts) will work well.

Your looking for a big pump! Sounds like your setting up a monster fish tank! What are you going to use it for? Tell us more about this tank?

External: Reeflo, Dolphin
Submersible: Laguna (heard a lot about them from reef people, but haven't owned one yet... I'm still a Mag guy for submersible pump :D)

Are you looking for a pump for your Ultima filter? Our Reeflo Hammerhead pump is a fantastic workhorse on our current mechanical filtration. Like it so well, I'm going with five Reeflos on our big upgrade.....including two Baracudas to run the two Ultima 4000s. What I haven't decided yet is whether to go gold or stick with the regular models. Apparently you lose a little power with Gold, but save in electrical consumption.

Reeflo.

If you want cost effective efficiency, I'm not the only one using the the Pro-Line hybrid drive pumps.
I love them. Quiet, efficient, and have had no problems. They can be submersed, or plumbed externaly.
