i think my towns water has alot of chemicals or something in the water. my scaleless fish have been getting white slime etc on them while the other fish that have been in my tank for a year now are fine. my question is can you recomend a good product to use for this? or do you think one of those brita filters would work?

How often do you change water? What's the size of your tank? We have water issues where I live because our town randomly dumps xtra chemicals into the supply to compensate for run off ...anyway I use a rubbermaid garabage can to store exchange water..you can even get one on wheels. I pretreat the water as normal with prime. I also have a fluval inside filter with purigen running along with a heater in the storage tank... So I store the water for 24 -48 hours then pump it into the tank to replace the old tank water...no issues at all.......:headbang2
