I'm in the process of setting up a new tank and my fishless cycle is going well. However when I went ahead and picked up a new KH and GH test my GH is registering over 180ppm, and my KH is around 30ppm. I'm planning on having a Pair or 2 of Apistos and some Buenos Aires Tetras. Also maybe a Queen or BN Pleco. I know Apistos are supposed to have soft water, so can anyone tell me how to soften the water or if the Apistos will cope with the Hardness?

They'll be fine.

The only problems you might have is if you're trying to breed them, but even then I don't know if you'll have trouble. I know people that breed apistos in fairly hard water. They're not as touchy as discus or something which you'd have a ton of trouble getting viable eggs from in hard water.

peat moss is messy ask the place where you bought them what there water was it will be more harmful to change your adults fish conditions then to replicate if you use peat the best way is to start a tank with complete ro water and use the peat ... cycle the tank and you will have to stick with ro for water changes but you would also have to add the trace elements and nutrients the ro process wipes out... if you arnt used to soft water and have naturally hard water you are playing with fire trying to get the opposite.... hard water naturally has buffers in it and you cant do much to get around that
