ive noticed that my plants have been dying in my tank , my question is this

i have a 210 gallon stingray setup ,would the decaying plant matter polute my water ? i never really cared for the plants they came with a tank i bought , but the loaches like to hide in it ?? would the rotting leaves mess up my parameters ?? thanks :D

Decaying matter contribute to the deterioration of the water quality. You can keep healthy plants but you must remove the decaying plant parts.

ya thanks i thought so , had a bit of a smell coming from the tank , ,and figured it was the plants leaves dying and being sucked in the filters , plus it was plugging the intakes , which sucks !! but more worried about it messing up my water !@!

The decaying leaves would affect your system some what but it depends on a few things. What type of plants, how many and what your bioload is. If you have a lot of plants to decay and/or a big bioload then it would most certainly have a large impact as far as ammonia, nitrates, nitrites and such. Also if you have broad leafed plants I would worry about them clogging up my intakes on my filters. It'd be best to remove any dead or dying plant mattter.
