Water Readings Advice

Hi guys,

I just recieved my water test kit this morning and did a test almost straight away.

The readings were as follows....

Nitrites 0
Nitrates 40 (concerned about)
PH 7.5
KH 0
GH 180 (concerned about)

The tank details are as follows.

100 gallon
2500 LPH
2 blood parrots
convict
5 tiger barbs and 4 baby rainbows - Everything in there is juvi

I do 40% water changes once to twice a week.

Anything i can do to soften the water, or is this ok for the fish? any advice would be great

Do a test on your tap water. If your tap water contains nitrates, doing a water change will not help reduce the nitrate level in the tank.

what is the best way to reduced the nitrates incase it is the tap water (not currently at home)

Add plants or get a reverse osmosis system.
