In My House
So I live in Vegas and the water here isn't the greatest.

With that said, my fish have been doing well with that water. I use a little aquarium salt, and water conditioner to treat the water.

I will be getting a water softener for the house soon. What are the pros and cons of this water softener in terms of my fishies water condition? And do I continue to use water conditioner?

Thanks in advance!

A water softener exchanges the calcium in your tap water, with sodium, the salt you put in the softener.
Softener water is generally not good for fish, softener water is for creating suds in your washing machine. The fish you keep determines what kind of water you need, but you have not told us that yet. So your question is hard to answer.

Right now I have a black aro, datnoid, and soon a collection on cichla

just use the outlet outside the house, it's not effected, or use the one on the sink, it's not effected either.

My mom said everything except the kitchen sink. But it'll take forever changing 300g with a sink faucet lol. Damn

the ones outside are not effected. i just use the outlets outside with my 50 feet aqueon water changer. i do 50% water changes with cold water from outside, the temp on my tank is at 85, and when i do 50% water change the temp drops to 75ish. and if i do 65% or 70% it goes to 70ish degrees which i don't think is that bad.

A bag of Alder cones or some IndianAlmondLeaves in your filter would help a great deal.

I'm in Houston Texas and the water here comes out in chunks of rock. For my CrystalRedShrimp tank I've used alder cones and IAL and was able to lower params to 6.2-6.4 from the tap which comes out at 8.0-8.2pH

Buy a 100' light use garden hose at ace hardware for 20$! Just make sure to roll it up so the water exits!

A 50 foot aqueon water changer is much more manageable IMO. And it comes with all attachments already so you don't have to do any modifications.
