Please only post your personal experience and not what you have read is good or bad and not what you think is good or bad. I want real world experiences. Unless of course you have a link to an actual reputable study done on the subject.

I have a water softener installed in my house. I currently am using Sodium Chloride to regenerate the resin bed.

I will eventually be keeping Oscars and Cats in my tank.

Have you had better success with using Sodium Chloride or Potassium Chloride in your water softeners?

Thanks in advance.

So far no luck finding Potassium salts, but I'm still looking.

I may just have to see how the Sodium salts work out.

I've used both for special projects (fish & animal related) but never for myself .

The potassium chloride was great for plants and some species of fish that were not salt tolerant.

Morton makes it: http://www.epinions.com/content_143035436676 Just don't know where to find it in your area (contact them?)

The Sodium Chloride in turn was a benefit for the salt tolerant and brackish critters (helped balance the salt level).

Biggest problem was during recharge (or regeneration) pipes had to be flushed completely before reconnection to the system. (Not a problem for me since I designed that feature into the system). Some systems canhave several feet of piping that can be contaminated.

Not much help I know, but my experiences none the less.

Seems like I had this conversation last year? Oh well, they say if you stand in one place long enough everyone will pass by you :D.

Thanks Doc!

The system is set to regenerate at 2am twice a week so lines should be fully flushed if I do a water change in the afternoon. Especially with wife and kids wasting water all day. :)

Cool.

Just my paranoia but I would flush out the line (calculate total water in pipe to where you get it for the W/C) and test it at least once for contaminates.

Keep us posted on how it turns out ,

Sounds like a good plan.

I am hoping and praying to have this tank plumbed and filled for cycling by the end of July.

We finally moved into the house a week and a half ago and it kills me to look at it everyday just sitting there empty. :)

Put a piece of background (pic of plants) in the front so it doesn't look so bad :ROFL:

I'll hang some NASCAR posters inside the front and see what the wife says. :)
