Anyone use this stuff? Does it lower the PH?

Yeah, i usually use sea salt cuz it's cheaper than aquarium salt, but i'm lookin for something that i can add during water changes to soften the water and lower the ph. I have driftwood in the tank, and have used peat, but i do 50% WC every week so by the time the ph gets right i'm changing half the water out again.

i dont think salt will alter your ph, could be wrong though...

It soften water by ion excahge as thew water passes through salt, won't work that way in the aquariumn (closed system), I've been using it for years in my Central American system (for Africans too) instead of the high priced salts made for aquarium use. Ken

na ive given up on messing with ph, you usually do more harm than good by stressing the fish out since your ph will always be changing. up and down up and down, its bad for the fish. i dont even care what my ph is at anymore. whatever it is out of the tap thats what the fish get. a CONSISTENT ph is much better than trying to achieve a certain range. i would just leave it alone, your cichla will be much happier that way :)

Water softener salt has other chemicals in it other then sodium you are risking the health of your fish using it .
not entirely accurate. solar salt crystals is pure sodium chloride, nothing added. cant get more pure than that. the "system saver pellets" is what you need to watch out for. this usually has some sort of additive.

the salt crystals is the exact same stuff sold by API in those silly little containers
