water softeners

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You'll need reverse-osmosis water to do the job but it is also expensive.

Although there are a few options for softening your water, playing with water chemistry can be dangerous to your fish. Unless you have an extremely high pH, it is best to just match your tanks pH to that of your tap. Arowana will adapt to a wide range of pH and Hardness levels. A stable pH is much better then trying to maintain a target level of pH.

Do you know the pH, GH(General Hardness) nad KH(carbonate Hardness) of your tap water?

I agree dont mess withn your water, it just means that its another thing that could go wrong. Then theres always the chance of a PH crash which could kill your fish.
the chance of a PH crash in the few times which had hurted my aro , restored a month,I agree dont mess withn your water
aro can adapt to a wild range of ph about 7.5-5.5

i run my aro tank at 7.0-7.2 so it will be fine. important to keep pH stable rather than aiming for a set value of 6.5-7.0

furthermore, if you soften the water, the pH will be much less stable and more likely to crash when you have a sudden increase in waste load in the future. i would leave your tank as is

btw changing hardness of the water would not change the pH.........aro do prefer softer water but as other have said, let your aro adapt to your water....much safer in the long run
