Has any one used one of these compact 3 stage RO filter kits seen them on amazon made for aquarium use to produce ro water was wondering if the are any good as the water in london is quite hard.
Not used anything from online, you must look at the volumes of water you would like to produce. Larger, quality units may waste less water in the production of RO which is also something to consider
I'm also curious to know is it safe to use water softener treated water in fish aquarium? I have installed one and would like to know before using RO treated water to my fish aquarium.

What fish are you keeping? There are fish that thrive in hard water, and fish that don't.
Easier than trying to soften water, is acquiring fish that fit the water you have.
Any of the rift lake african species love hard water.
Most live bearers and cichlids from Central America, come from, and thrive in hard water.
Do a little research before buying fish, and you won't need to try and soften it.
Where I lived in the states, the total hardness was @ 250m/L (7 grains hardness) with pH around 8, and there were hundreds of species that did fine in that water. I did need to avoid those few Amazonian types that thrived in acidic low pH, and almost zero hardness.
