I was wondering I have very hard water my daugter lives down the street and she has a water softner but is still on well . I want to get some water off her for my ten gallons which will hold shrimp. Do water softners have clorine in them will i have to treat the water, and will it bring down the ph of the tank . Thanks These tanks will be for crystal shrimp.:nilly:

Water softeners do not use chlorine, I would not use this water though. A water softener makes the water artificially soft by adding salts to the water to replace the calcium that clogs pipes. Not really suitable for fish.
