Aloha MFKers,

I wanted to ask if anyone else has the same problem. I don't over feed my fish but it seems like every time I feed them my water gets really, really stink from the Hikari Food sticks.
Does anyone else have the same experience with Hikari Food Sticks and if so what do you do to remedy the smell. Is there any chemical additive that can eliminate the smell?

Thanks in Advance!

Shane

not to be offensive or anything but you take out the uneaten fish food after 5 mins right?

i use the same kind of fish food and i don't have any problems with water smelling. although i do also change 80 percent of my water every 3-4 days

There are no left overs after a minute or two. My two pbass, aro, pacu, and silver dollars gobble them down real quick.

I also do water 60-80 % changes every 3-4 days. Dunno what it is!

Funny you brought this up my buddy says the same thing when he feeds any pellets, says his water stinks and I feed my fish a variety of pellets and it doesn't. He runs carbon in his filters, I don't. Idk if that has anything to do with it but your not the only one saying that.

hmm a friend of mine uses the food sticks and he doesnt have a problem and he never removes the uneaten food he just leaves it for the pleco to clean up

Yea my water stinks too after feeding foodsticks. Its the smell of wet hikari sticks I think it gets in my filter socks and then gradually rinses away from the water running through them.

I feed mostly NLS and it has very minimal to no smell in the water but that's only noticeable when I don't change water or towards the end of the cycle before a water change.

NLS Thera+A is a beast on smell though, it makes the whole house smell like garlic.

I had a problem with massivore making my tank water smell I stopped using it when I smelt it to see if that's what it was and it stop as soon as I switched to another brand of sinking pellets so if your having a problem try another pellet when the fish eat them and crush them up in there mouth especially the peacock bass alot of small particles come out the gills and circulate threw the tank so that could be what is happening so that's what I would do is try another food my peacock bass did it to me all the time they made such a mess especially my 18 inch mono GL bro
