Brine Shrimp, Bloodworms, Earth worms, Black worms, Cichlid Bio Gold are probably the best foods for young and mid sized cichlids.

Black worms usually blow my young boys up fast.

what kind of cichlids? new worlders would love beefheart, but i would be wary of feeding too much to some kinds of africans. i don't keep african cichlids, but I have read several times that an overabundance of protein in their diet can cause "malawi bloat" in certain kinds.

Second that, all my central\south americans love beefheart, they tear it up. My africans I rarely give high protien food to, less than once a week. I give them bloodworms or plankton. As far as fast growth, I think it's all the love mine get!:)

beefheart is a great food for cichlids. it can help towards a faster growth with other quality foods as well. i wouldnt feed just beefheart though. i always picked my beefheart at the grocery stroe. cheap and available most of the time. you will have to cut it up and make sure each piece doesnt have arteries, veins, cartlidge or whatever that junk in it is called

I heard that beefheart was somewhat bad for fish not sure if that was if fed in large or regular amounts or what. when i picked up my so called trimac i was told not to feed it beefheart. was the sells rep wrong?

I just feed it like once a week or every other week since ive been told it not good to make it one of the main staokes more like a treat

I also only feed beefheart once or twice a week, as a treat, Fish Gumdrops, frozen stuff.
