Hi! I have had discus for a while and every week I go to my lfs to get my water test but I do not have that much time too keep going to my lfs to get the water tested and I am going to buy a test kit, but I found out thatthere are strips and chemical kit. Which is better?

Chemicals...

Oh ... y tho? like is it just more accurate? if so i will just go with that.

Something to do with the eyes.

I find colours on liquid based test kit much easier to compare with the chart than with strips.
The colour difference on the chart are so closed I cant even tell which is it.

But if you are really a fish-fanatic, go get an ion selective electrode.
Those are pricey but they give very accurate reading and its in a digit as well.

A chemical kit is definitely better than strips. I only recommend strips if you're doing quick tests on multiple tanks at once and need a general idea of how the water quality is. The chemical kit provides more specific numbers.

I agree with the others liquid test kit strips are not accurate. Most of us here use the API master liquid test kit

Liquid test kits are more accurate. I'm sure this will be a unanimous opinion.

Just to inject some more discussion fodder; not all liquid testers are created equal. This is more important I find in the marine side of the hobby, but it still matters. The Salifert test kits for example are very high quality, some of them are 40-50 bucks.

Personally, I use strips at as I'm lazy and have multiple tanks, and usually no water issues.

kk I will go with the chemicals then! I am a fish fanatic but I will not go to those really really fancy machines for just a chemical test. Thanks guys :D
