Really shouldn't matter--both should work, ammonia is ammonia.

are you saying the marine and fresh test kits for ammonia and nitrate are the same? then why they label them as such and sell them separately?

$$$$$! There may be a slight difference in consistency between the 2. I the FW test thickens up when used for SW.

I was at petco today and yes, both marine and fresh use the same test kit.

Brad the freshwater kit is better to use for brackish then the salt water kit but it is not 100% dead on with the color on the cards so you are going to have to do your best to match up to the closest level.
