Water Testing???

Just throwing this out there for some of us who might not know... What is every one opinion on the best H20 testing supplyies out there?? there are alot of diffrent brands out there and they all read diffrent thing.. so this is generally for everyones opinion on what to use and what has worked best...

API Liquid is pretty good.

Seachem has slightly more advanced test but cost more.

API freshwater kit.

Basically a fresh regent test kit that does;
Ph,
Ammonia,
NitrItes,
NitrAtes,
then
GH,
KH,
etc...
You'll learn to use the Ph and Ammonia test first,
then probably the NitrAte...
If those 3 tests are within limits, I hardly ever use the rest...

API is a popular kit that most people use and accuracy is usually acceptable. for the price, you cant go wrong

I also use API, for more accurate low reading such as for saltwater i've heard salifert is good. But i have no need for reading that low.

It depends on the parameter. For pH, an ISFET pH electronic meter. For TDS, a TDS meter.

For other parameters, electronic meters aren't available or aren't good in the low ranges. They're more for industrial processes where they need 24/7 monitoring which is tough to do with chemical tests.

For everything else, colorimeters like those made by Hach are what you should consider if you want to go over the top.

To be honest, I just perform lots of water changes, and I smell the water - as long as it smells musty and sweet, things are good. I haven't tested my water in 25 years!

Having said that, I think there are lots of good products out there, and my method may not be the best!
