Hey all i would like to know, have any fellow MFers' who brought a used Water Tote. These 275-gallon totes were used once for "Quat liquid disinfectant" (used in hospitals) that is water soluble. my concern now if i use that as an age water tank for my water changes.. is it a good idea??

I would take great care to wash it out properly. Then, I way full and drain a few times just to make sure everything was out. Finally, before using it on your nice fish I would test the water with some less expensive fish.

Your talking about these toats correct?

If its the color white then you'll be fine rinsing it out with hot water and then letting water sit in it for a day or two. Are you planning on buying it from a private party? The companies that use them give them out for free lol. Local places like co cola factories just throw them away after using the syrup inside them. But make sure its white and its good to go. The blue/black ones are used for chemicals from my knowledge.

Do you mind me asking why you would want aged tank water? Chlorine will evp out but if your water has chloramaine it'll stay in there regardless.

YES.. but seller used it for hospital..
my arowana doesn't like direct city manciple tap water.. if the fall time i notice his slime fizzes out when doing water changes... so i would like to age it for a day or 2 but don't want to run to air pump and heater so i see this from Craigslist.. some seller had other things store into it like airplane antifreeze so i just say no thanks but this seller had Quat for hospital use...

I think i will do that... put like a hundred feeders to try out..

If you mind me asking how much is he trying to sell it for? If its more than 50 bucks then I would make a couple phone calls to food factories around you and if you ask nicely they would be more than happy to save you a couple for no charge from my experience. Some would probably tell you the dates the use the toats and leave them next to the dump, but from this you can just go pick them up. I really hate the people on craigslist getting them for free and charging something ridiuculous like over 100 bucks when all it cost them was some gas.

I use Quats (quatranary amonium compound -if I remember correctly) in My work..it is kinda nasty stuff, not sure I would reuse container. But I am sure You could find more info on it....I would read up as much as possible before riskin it.

Soupa, I am a Barber, That's the jar of blue stuff (Barbicide)You see on every Barbers station for sanitizing combs etc.

For 130... I would pass. Could you possibly tell me where you live? I can search up some local food industries that use them on a weekly/monthly bases to produce their products. Basically all it would cost you is some time and some gas money haha.

Its usually a coke cola factory as most US states has one or even beer factories which I'm sure countries all around the world has relatively near by.
