I am going to start putting water in my salt water tank tomorrow and was wondering about water quality? I don't have RO setup and dont plan on getting one in house I'm currently in. I have heard of people using spring water instead of tap. Is this ok? My other option would be to buy premix saltwater from LFS. However thats cheap. What do you guys suggest?

I would use distilled water till you have a RO/DI unit or use Prime with your tap water and check it.

do you want corals?

i would stay away from springwater as theres no guarantee about quality. distilled may be a option, sometimes at the grocery store they have ro machines

water is very important in this hobby. but alot of bottle watered is from local municipalities. don't do that. since your in this hobby you should buy a ph kit. if your water is in parameters use it. even if you have to get ph up or down it will probably be cheaper than buying water. if you are in a hot climate you will have to top off the tank often... idk how to edit your post but the water title set up some good jokes. Gl

You may also want to get a water report from your local water management. I've always used my local tap water. I want to get an RO/DI eventually but the tap is just fine in my parts.

Thank you. Had LFS test water they said I would be good with some dechlor. I did also purchase test kit. Not planning on corrals anytime soon. I guess title is kinda funny... Thanks for the help!

You can use Distilled bottled gallon water, I know you can buy it from walmart, don't use spring water alot of times spring water will have more vitamins and minerals than your local tap. I use tap for now, but I have well water, I had it tested and my alkalinity, pH were fine when I set it up.
Are you running a reef tank or just Fish only? Algae gets alittle more out of control with tap water, than it does with the ro/di in a reef setup. Fish only with minimum lighting I never had a problem with tap.
