Are you using a Python? Using a pump to drain the water? Gravity? I'm lost with the whole I'm using a hose.

I'm not using a python but I do have a long clear 1/2" hose. I use a pump to jump start the siphon then just aim the hose where I want to suck all the crap out. If I use a pump then it drains faster.

what kind of store was it that had 50ft 5/8 hose for $8? I saw some hose on Ebay for $70 shipped on 3/4" 50ft.

You can probably shave 10mins off if you use a high head pressure pump to push the water through the tube.
it was a toro blue strip 1/2 50' at home depot. they didnt have it when i went. i only you a pump when its going into my tank if not using buckets manually.

3/4" on my 125g/100g top/bottom setup. but I have a valve on the pump inlet that i use for it, the pump does 700 gph at 4' of head (it's roughly 3.5' from inlet to output) so it drains the system pretty quickly.

My tanks are mostly barebottom and I have powerheads to push the waste into the overflow so there's no need for me to siphon it.
