I have 2 waterfall filters that I am running on my pond. 1 on either side hooked up to a 4500 pump. I have gravel in gravel in there first then a filter pad on top but it seems like it could be doing so much more. Could I just pool filter sand? Just put it in nylons?

Buy some Matala if you have the money. Reading the article and reviews on it, I'm convinced. I'm thinking about stuffing 4 Fx5s with it.
Nylons can degrade very quickly. Also because of the heavy solid waste in a pond, fine meshes clog and hinder flow very quickly. Pool filter sand isn't meant to be packed together, tightly but rather to kind of roll in the filters water flow. Something like Filter Clay would be better used in that application.
