My grandpa has a 350 gallon pond and we are going to build a waterfall filter.
I think im going to have a submersible pump going into a basicaly a giant hob filter and have the water going down flat rocks.
How big of a pump do i need

3500 GPH would be excellent and allow enough flow to make a cool waterfall!

do you recomend any brands

I highly recommand Savio. In addtion to water, it's powerful pump sucks fish-droppings and debris from the pond-floor into a filter-canister. Good luck. ;)

How wide is the falls going to be?

A typical waterfall with flat rocks would look good w/150 gph per inch of width. If using boulders for the falls 300 gph per inch of width.

Those numbers will need to be scaled back since the pond is only 350 gals. Look to get 3-4 X turnover on that pond.

for a 12in wide water fall, I would go with pump that is at least 2000gph.
