I've used various pieces of driftwood throughout the years that I had collected in nature. I have a couple of pieces which I'd used in tanks years and years ago, then took out and they in turn dried out so now they float. I drilled them and screwed terra plant bases onto them for weight so I could have them in the tanks. How long before they are water logged and able to just sit at the bottom on their own? Also is there any danger in having a few pieces of floating driftwood just floating in the tank and getting moved by the filter current?

Try boiling them in a big pot or covering them in a big rubber container with boiling water. that will speed up the process of the water soaking into the dry wood.

what I did for big pieces was go to walmart and buy one of those rubbermaid blue tubs for like 8 bucks and then I poured pot after pot of boiling water on them till it was about half way full, then I dumped it and filled it up wit ha brick/ rock on the wood to hold it under, I changed the water everytime it became a tea color or light brown

the boiling method sounds good...but the piece of slate idea wood work faster....no matter wat else u used....

i have just screwed them on to a pice of slate.

I just bought a peice of driftwood a couple weeks ago it would'ent sink. I'm luckey it was hollow throughout the middle, so anyways I went to sears and bought a 3 pound dumbell I went home all I had to do was drill a little bit of wood out just enough for the weight to fit in nice and tight. My only wonder is if the dumbell could possibly rust guess I'll have to cheak it from time to time.
