i was in my lfs last weeknd and they had a crap load of plecos all were labeled as commons but one it was labeled a royal it was about 4" and they wanted 30$ for it also it looked like a watemelon ( i thought) then i get home look them both up and what do i find that they look a heck or alot alike

so my question is are they one in the same or whats the diff ?

and is 30$ a good deal for what i mentioned

The watermelon aka spotted royal is another type of royal pleco. It is harder to find and looks a little better. $30 is ok for the royal. Make sure it has driftwood in the tank and feed it zuchini lettuce and good quality wafers. I have another type of royal- gold line royal which is more rare than the watermelon. You will love the royal if you buy it. They have a cool personality.

Yea, royals are cool...and 30 is about average. I want a royal, but I have Jack Dempseys...they would destroy it

Different river location (collection point) and a different patten. I have had a fully spotted get his lines but keep his spotted belly, some people put it down to light, water chem and tank colours. A fully spotted adult is worth a fair chunk a change!

That seemed like a pretty decent price for 4". Up here they'll definitely cost more than that at LFS. Yeah, the main difference is the color pattern...the watermelon looks a bit nicer than the regular royal in my opinion.

Why do you say that? As for as SA's are concerned, Jack's aren't the most aggressive by any means. That and the Royal pretty much being armored would give it a good defense.
