This is a little off the beaten path but wanted to see if anyone had some input that could help.

I want to build a sunken tub into my master bath. Rather than using a pre-formed tub I was thinking about building a tub out of plywood and then covereing it with cement board. I then wanted to seal this and then tile over the sealant.

I want a tile tub but didn't know how to go about sealing the vat before adding the tile... any thoughts??

You may be better off making a concrete tub (use reinforcing wire), seal it and then tile it. Find a local tile guy and offer him $20 to talk you thru it.

I say this because the tube (box) cannot flex or you can compromise the seals. and between 1000lbs of water and a couple of people, plywoods going to flex.

You can use silicone to lay and grout the tiles with (use a silicone that has a non-mildew agent in it).
