Built this stand for my 180 gallon, would like to know what most of you used to waterproof your stands. :)20160118_152526.jpg

Im partial 2 matte or gloss black rustoleum for steel or wood stands i build/sell. I use both the oil and waterbased sold at home depot, both seem 2 hold up fairly the same/well when wet. The waterbased is not 2 bad for fumes indoors either

Thank you very much Wednesday13 :), I just may wait it out until spring so I don't have to hear my wife complaining about the smell lol.

haha, i understand that well...havent woken my other half up yet using the water based rusteloum in the basement lol... stupid its only sold in quarts but gets the job done. its called "painters touch"... any water based paint would not smell for long tho.

Ok thats great to hear my next break from the job, I may go ahead and coat the stand.:)

That looks plenty strong, and now with the protection. What is going UNDER, and are you planning to wrap it?

Sorry for the late reply DN328 DN328 the 180 is in my basement and lol I'm the only one in the house that goes down there , so it will be unwrapped and probably a sump will go under. My purposes for waterproofing it was due to the humidity, and my fish splash water out of the aquarium sometimes.

I used behr patio weather proofing before painting it white. The smell from the fume was awful so I aired it out for two weeks.
