I have a 75g salt water fish tank and I was wondering how many watts I should have? All I am trying to do is have live rock and a couple of soft back corals, aninimes, and fish..

Your gonna need to be more specific. Heating watts ? Lighting watts ?

For heating since your in cali unless you need more than a 16 degree rise in temperature a 200 watt heater should do just fine.

For lighting. You would have to establish a budget... salt water lighting setups vary tremendously in cost especially when your dealing with corals and anemone's.

Watts per gallon is a stupid rule.

Try posting in the reef section

A good T5HO fixture would be adequate, I think. 4x54W, less might work too. Live rock doesn't need much light (maybe none, I don't know if it needs to support photosynthetic organisms too). Coral likes it bright though.
