wave maker?

Airstones are more gentle , but powerheads are great for making current, which many fish enjoy

It may actually depend on what type fish you keep.
If you keep gouramis or species from oxbows, rice paddies or other gentle water movement habitats, air stones are fine.
If you keep riverine species like many cichlids, a power head may produce that directional flow they do best in.
Many powerhead are also equip with a venturi option that produces bubble action, beside the flow.
below a small powerhead with the venturi

Wave makers might be an option if you kept surf dwelling specie such as rift lake dwelling species like Eretmodus or other goby cichlids, or salt water fish.
I kept rheophillic cichlid species like Chuco and Rheoheros from rapids and riffles so my tanks often had much more movement that the norm. You can tell the way the plants bend in the currnent.

I have a longnose gar, convict cichlid, petricola cat and I just got 2 oscars for the tank today. So i'd assume they would enjoy a current in the water

but im going to let the oscars adjust before changing things up, I have two air stones in my tank and almost all of my fish love the bubbles they swim through them often espically my gar he will position his back half in the bubbles and just sit there for a little while so I still would like to keep one air stone for them to play in.

duanes duanes thanks for the pictures! I like the looks of the plants, I do have a wave maker but never used it
