What type of tank should use a wavemaker and what type of setup should use a powerhead... i will be doing some research on the net about this but i wanted to get some advice from the forum also.. i plan on setting up a 55 gallon american cichlid community tank i wanted to know what i should buy and install i already have an aquatech 60 gallon filter
A wavemaker is typically a controller that operates powerheads, switching them on and off in order to create alternating currents in an aquarium. There are other types of "wavemaker" out there (a dump-type, for example) but they are fairly uncommon. I use a Tsunami brand wavemaker and three powerheads (2xTunze and 1x Koralia) on my 210 to vary the currents. I would think that on a 55 FW tank a wavemaker may be overkill.
