Ways how to stop ornates fading

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
put them in the tank and leave them alone for a day or two they should color back up on their own-Anne

I agree with Anne.

Also, if you're as picky about color and pattern as I am lol, you have to be very meticulous about these details when looking over different strains.

Some ornates have very nice 'spiral galaxy' patterns on their gill plats, and high contrast between yellow and black on their patterns.

Others have a mushy coffee color to them, with not much pattern.

I'll post up comparison pics of the two, maybe tonight.

also no bright lights

Good point. The fish look their best and will behave normally in a dimly lit tank.

my ornate is still pale since i bought him
its been 4 months

Poor genetics/over farming of same blood pool.

If you dont want him to be pale:
Use dark/black gravel.
Dont use bright light to light up your tank.
Make sure no fish is annoing him or teaching him some sort of a lesson.

Its totally natural for any fish to " washout " when being intrduced to a tank it will come back with time

Also black gravel/sand is a great way to darken the color of fish over time
