What are some ways to cycle your tank without fish. I have heard that putting a piece of fish or krill in the tank and leaving it their will cycle your tank. If this is true, how long should I leave the krill in the tank. Should i just leave the krill in the tank and keep checking the params until the are correct. I have a 29 gallon tank.
Thanks in advance.

Put some ammonia in the water. Measure it out so you can accurately adjust it. Raise the concentration up to around 4ppm. This should start fishless cycling.

Live Rock and Live sand is all you need

the die-off from the LR and LS will fuel the cycle

if it's all un-cured

Even if it is cured, the die-off of bacteria when the rock is taken out of the tank and transfered will do the same thing.

You can buy pure ammonia and add it to the water...

I think it's much simpler to simply put raw shrimp in there and let it rot. Check your parameters in a month and if they're 0, 0, and 10 then you're good to go.

Remove the shrimp, obviously.

In a 29g tank? just buy a 5lbs piece of live rock and put it in there. Its something you'll want anyway.

I did just live rock in my set up and it was completely cycled in 1 solid week. That is all I used too.
