I have the Aqueon 55 gallon deluxe kit. During the winter I have a problem keeping my tank warm. Over night it goes down all the way to 74 degrees. During the day with the lights on my tank only reaches 76 degrees. I do not see any signs of stress on my fish. My amazon swords are not doing so well with the cold water.

My tank sits in the coldest room in my house. I have to keep it there because of space. The room has a lot of windows that are not insulated well, which cools down my tank. What are some ways I can heat my tank? Any recommendations on specific lights and heaters I should buy for my tank?

My tank has : ( I will sell some when they get larger )
around 20 - Yellow acei
around 10 - Yellow labs

A 55 isnt that large of a tank,a couple heaters in it and it should stay at temp pretty easy..

A drop of a few degrees at night is not that big a deal, but you could add insulation on the bottom, back, and 2 side windows to help stabilize the temp, it also helps during power outages. I use the styrofoam type found at home improvement stores. A closed top, if you do not already have it can also help.

Before I spent money on insulation for your tank, or an additional heater, I would insulate those windows you're talking about. Also, if you get a set of curtains, that can work wonders. If you don't want to do curtains, just put a bed sheet in front of the windows.

Try to fix the problem, not find solutions while keeping the problem

My basement is cold as well I went from having a 150w struggling to hold 76. I added an additional 200w and the tank is stable at 82 even when it gets down to low 60's in my room.
