I bought 2 WC Azuls today and within 3 hours of putting them in the tank 1 died and the other is on his last legs.. What could have happened? This is my first time buying wild caught fish. They were in there with some larger cichla but I didn't see any physical harm done. I floated them in the bag for about 40 minutes and put em in. No drip acclimation or anything like that. It's really hot in my house right now so I checked temp and it was 90. Could that have done it? I have no experience with wild caught fish so I would love some help thanks.

You took a fish and just floated it in the bag without any drip or acclimation and your water temp is 90*. I'm pretty sure that did them in

Floating him in the bag should have evened out the temp though right? And I asked the owner of the fish store and he said he didn't need a drip acclimation

I would imagine that wild caught fish might be more sensitive to water chemistry. I don't quite get why you would float them that long and not mix any tank water in. I would guess that the difference between the two environments was to much for them. That high of a temperature also drastically reduces oxygen in the water so that might play a factor as well.
Sorry for your loss

Thanks.. I have officially only lost 1. The other is in a Rubbermaid container with I ton of air being pumped in and he's still breathing.. He is on his side however.. Fingers crossed!!

I thought about a drip acclimation but I trusted the owner of the store cause he seemed pretty knowledgeable.. Oh well lesson learned.. I'm just sad that the poor guy had to die for me to learn :(

I never drip my fish, grab and dump right in. Never a lose this way. There is something said that once the bag is open the o2 makes the water in the bag even worse of a pollutant. Unless the fish where from a complete different water source say from a different country or some what. Discus Hans does the same with expensive delicate Discus from Germany and just grabs them and dumps them in as well as alot of other vendors.

Whats your water parameters?
